It’s becoming difficult to keep count of the records being tumbled by Liverpool’s Egyptian King. At 33 years of age, Mohamed Salah is showing no signs of slowing down, and is likely heading for his most productive ever season at Anfield. The 33 year old leads the Premier League charts when it comes to both goalscoring (25) and providing assists (16) so far this season. He has already broken the record for the most goal contributions away from home in a Premier League season. Salah’s (182) also overtaken Thierry Henry (175) in the all-time Premier League goalscoring list, with Argentine Sergio Agüero (184) now the only foreign player with more Premier League goals than him – Salah’s only two behind him.

However, one accolade that could surpass even all of those other records is being hunted down by the Egyptian king. Numbers wise, Salah could be in line to have the best Premier League season in history. The Liverpool winger already has 41 goal contributions in the league alone this term, and with 11 games to go, he is just six goal contributions short of the Premier League record, and just three short of the record in a 38-game season. Let’s take a look at who he still needs to overtake.
Most goal contributions in a season in Premier League history
Sharing the mantle of the most goal contributions in a Premier League season are Andy Cole and Alan Shearer. The legendary strikers both managed 47 goals and assists – Cole for Newcastle in the 1993/94 season, and Shearer in Blackburn’s title winning campaign in 1994/95. However, both of those achievements came in a 42-game season, with 22 teams in the division for the opening few Premier League campaigns. When it comes to the record holders in a 38-game season, Henry and Erling Haaland tie first with 44 goal contributions apiece. Arsenal’s legendary Frenchman scores 24 goals and provided 20 assists in a monstrous campaign in the 2002/03 season, whilst Haaland scored 35 goals and provided nine assists in his opening season in England.

Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez managed 43 goal contributions in the 2013/14 season, despite being banned for the first six games of the campaign for biting Branislav Ivanovic. Salah himself amassed 42 goal contributions in his first season at Liverpool back in 2017/18 – he will surely beat that this term. Now just behind Salah this season, is Henry (in the 2004/05 season), Didier Drogba (in the 2009/10 season) and Robin van Persie (in the 2011/12 season) who all managed to get 39 Premier League goal contributions. Salah has already left them behind, and will have hie eyes on climbing right to the top of that list and laying claim to having the best ever Premier League season.
